Hey I’m Matt, I want to thank you for visiting my site! I’m the founder of Upward Self. Being a solopreneur with a successful business, I know the ups and downs that comes with it including; dealing with loneliness, being responsible for every part of my business, dealing with uncertainty surrounding business decisions, and the like. These are all the things you may experience in the shift from being an employee to full-time solopreneur.
As much as I like being my own boss and the work I do, I’m also passionate about learning ways to become more effective both in business and in life. I love the concept of self-management. This is the way we govern ourselves, on a day to day basis. It’s the prerequisite to having a great day, a great month, year, and life.
When it comes to solopreneurship, It seems that there’s no shortage of people talking about the dream of being your own boss. What isn’t widely discussed is the complete shift in self-management style from working for someone else at a 9-5 to becoming a full-time solopreneur.
Normally, you’d have a list of tasks sent down from your manager who makes the decisions on what projects to work on. Now, you are your own manager and have to decide what is most important. What do you focus on first? Without other team members, who do you spit ball with or look to for advice? How do you handle all the new decisions you have to make while maintaining your happiness and well-being? In essence, how do you effectively manage your time and energy?
Suddenly, it’s like time stops and your thrown into a new world, a new lifestyle where what was once pretty much set on autopilot has now turned to you handling the controls. How do you navigate the turbulence of this new lifestyle? Where and who do you turn to for advice? My mission is to be that resource for you.
My philosophy for success in business and in life is simple: Take care of yourself first. Once you make yourself the priority, everything else follows.
